Intellectual property (IP) law is the area of law that deals with protecting the rights of the creator. IP rights are the legally recognized as the exclusive rights of the creations of the mind and are mainly divided into two categories Industrial Property and Copy Rights.
Industrial Property: Includes trademarks, patents and inventions, industrial designs and geographical indications.
Copy Rights: Refer to literary works such as novels, poems, music, films, photographs, sculptures, paintings and architectural drawings. In addition includes rights of artists in their performances, producers of phonograms recordings and broadcasting in radio and television programs.
Under intellectual property (IP) law, owners are granted certain exclusive rights to a variety of intangible assets, such as musical, literary, and artistic works; discoveries and inventions; and words, phrases, symbols, and designs. The purpose of intellectual property law is to encourage new technologies, artistic expressions and inventions while promoting economic growth, whilst legally protecting owners/creators/authors.
